Visit the Cube Houses

Overview

The Cube Houses are a mind bending architectural project by Piet Blom. However, they have now become an iconic Rotterdam landmark; you may have seen the houses splashed across websites and Instagram posts about the city. As the name illustrates, the project is made up of a set of buildings shaped into inverted cubes.

It’s completely free to roam around outside and take photos! If you’re into quirky architecture, you can pay €3 to go inside one. Although they’re not massive, they are surprisingly liveable inside!

However, keep an eye out for the people outside trying to make an extra buck by selling entry for an inflated price. When we arrived, there were men outside with yellow raincoats tied around their waist inviting people to go and discover the inside. We wanted to go anyway so said we didn’t need help, but one walked up with us anyway. On arrival, the man at the little till desk tried to charge us €4 each. I questioned if the price had gone up since I’d seen it as €3 online, and he very quickly said ‘Oh you can have it for that price if you’ve seen that’ which was a bit suss to me…
