Overview

I booked DAVE Red Athens because it was a bloody bargain at Β£47 a night – over the New Year too – and was incredibly impressed with how a place so affordable has a real sense of character too.

From red ceilings and neon lights to the fact there’s a club down in the basement, there’s definitely an edgy feel to the interiors and the ethos behind the hotel.

However, I’m happy to report that we were very comfy too! Though we booked a room with a balcony to guarantee an ample amount of light – you may find that the cheapest room is without windows.

The area has a real mix of cultures and is worth an explore before heading more central, though at night it is a little on the tasty side! I felt safe walking back with James as long as we stuck to the main roads – there’s a police station directly opposite the hotel too. However, if I was a woman on my own, I’d stick to getting a taxi back instead if it was after dark. It wouldn’t put me off staying again – though living in London and travelling to big cities often it takes a fair bit to scare me off!

Also, at prices like these, I know you can’t have everything!!

I’ve written a full review with pictures of our stay so if you’re interested, make sure you check that out too.
