Vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers from the UK can travel to mainland Portugal without quarantining  provided they can show proof of a negative COVID test.

Portugal only accepts the EU digital COVID passport and the EU COVID recovery certificate – not the UK’s versions – which is why everyone must test to enter mainland Portugal

Before you travel to Portugal

• Show proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure OR a proof of a negative rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours of departure

NHS tests will not be accepted – you must book your tests privately

PLUS

Before you travel to England

• Show proof of a negative rapid antigen or PCR test – you must have taken this test in the 72 hours before you travel to England

• Book and pay for a PCR  test to be taken after arrival in England. You need this booking reference to add to your passenger locator form

NHS tests will not be accepted – you must book your tests privately

PLUS
• Complete a passenger locator form. You can submit the form any time in the 48 hours before you arrive in the UK

After you arrive in England

• Take your PCR test on Day 2 or before – the day you enter the UK is classed as Day 0
• You do not need to isolate whilst waiting for the result, though if you test positive, you will then need to follow the UK’s guidance on isolating

This information is for vaccinated travellers. If you are unvaccinated, you will have to self isolate for 10 days and take an additional test on Day 8.
