The Best Romantic Hotels for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day may have passed already this year, but we thought it was still handy to show you what our top picks of the best cheap hotels were.

With the way that hotel pricing works, it’s likely these all still offer great value throughout the rest of the year, and may be a good shout for Valentine’s Day 2025 too!

However, just keep in mind that the prices shown here were for February 2024.

The Falstaff from £68 a night

Cantebury, United Kingdom

Name: The Falstaff

Location: Canterbury, UK

Tell me more: The Falstaff, once an old coaching inn from the 15th Century, has had a serious glow up. Forget about creaky floors and dusty stables, now it’s all about bold colours, dreamy beds and cool artwork. There’s a lot of history too, thanks to its past life as not only an inn, but a Wood Mill and a former pub, The Tap.

Inside the main house, things are pretty swanky with a long steel-cast bar where they host cocktail classes, a comfy lounge for lazy afternoons and a pub serving up local brews.

Up the romance: Embrace the UK winter chill by hunkering down in a wood-panelled pub or head to the bar for cocktails. Book The Goods Shed for a candlelit romantic dinner amidst the market stalls!

Prices: Stay in a Cosy room from just £68 a night!

If you’ve got money to splurge, opt for the Luxury room that comes with a rolltop bath.

Getting There: The hotel is just a 4 minute walk from Cantebury West train station so it’s a great option if you don’t have a car! Trains from London St Pancras take just an hour, with plenty of connections to the rest of the country from there.

MOB House from £81 a night

Paris, France

Name: MOB House

Location: Paris, France

Tell me more: We had to chuck in an option for the city of love, but with a twist. MOB House is actually just outside the central area of Paris which means you get a lot more for your money. Plus, it’s got good transport links to whisk you into the city to tick off the romantic activities.

If you’re more interested in staying put, I loved the bar and lounge area when I stayed – there was such a buzz! So if you want to feel like you’re an ‘it couple’ who hang out at this cool out of town spot, then this could be a great option for you!

Up the romance: Having stayed recently, I found the cheapest rooms cute but a little bare and I personally didn’t love the bed in the middle of the room. Therefore, I think it would definitely be worth opting for a higher category room to dial up the romance. I love the look of the Junior Suites (also called MH24T if you’re booking direct) rooms which are on a higher floor with a view of the Sacre Coeur or garden. Some also have a little terrace to sit out on.

For an extra dose of romance in the city, go for a wine tasting at the Le Clos Montmartre vineyard, followed by a romantic walk along the River Seine or maybe a dinner cruise, and wrap things up with a fancy dinner at Hôtel Plaza Athénée.

Prices: We found prices starting from £81, even in peak periods!

Getting There: You can fly to Paris direct from al these cities in the UK: Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bristol, Glasgow London, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff and Southampton. You. can often find return flights for under £50!

My favourite way to get to Paris, however, is the Eurostar and there’s often deals for £39 each way.

Hotel Altus Palace from £91 a night

Wrocław, Poland

Name: Hotel Altus Palace

Location: Wrocław, Poland

Tell me more: Wrocław’s Hotel Altus Palace is a luxury 5 star hotel that won’t cost you a fortune! Located just 15 minutes from the main square, it’s only a short walk to all the action – be that Cathedral Island or Wrocław Opera House.

The hotel is housed in a former palace built in 1874. It’s a grand building which is intricately decorated and boasts over 81 comfortable rooms and suites, a spa, fitness centre, restaurant and bar. It is BEAUTIFUL.

Up the romance: You get access to the basement spa as part of your stay. It’s only small but it does mean that when you get it to yourself, it feels like your own private retreat! That, and check out the Junior Suites for the full wow factor and freestanding bathtubs.

Prices: There are plenty of rates for under £100 a night, with the cheapest I’ve seen costing around £90 a night.

Plus, if you decide to upgrade to the Junior Suite you can find prices from as low as £140 a night. This room definitely makes it to the top of my list for the best cheap romantic hotels out there!

Getting There: You can catch a direct flight to Wrocław from London’s Luton and Stansted airports, Bournemouth Airport, Manchester Airport, Bristol Airport, Liverpool Airport, Birmingham Airport, Leeds Airport and Nottingham Airport.

Cheap flights are often under £50 return, but you may need to book a little in advance if you’re travelling peak.

Do you know what hotel you want to stay in but want to find how stay on the cheapest night? Here's my step by step guide on how to save money.

Kosmo Hotel Suites & Spa from £138 a night

Budapest, Hungary

Name: Kosmo Hotel Suites & Spa

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Tell me more: The Kozmo Hotel Suites & Spa is no ordinary stay – it’s got history written all over it. Housed in a landmark that once rocked the largest telecommunications centre in Eastern and Central Europe during the early 1900s, this place is dripping with stories. It still has towering ceilings, a jaw-dropping staircase in the lobby and a spire-shaped tower that serves up insane 360° views of Budapest, including Buda Castle and the Citadel… Dreamy.

Up the romance: The great news with this hotel is that you don’t need to book an expensive room to get an amazing room. In fact, they even have standard rooms with free standing baths so make sure you request one when you book!

If you want to use the spa, look out for the rooms that include spa access. If not, it will cost €20 per person for each day used or free with a massage or treatment.

Prices: The prices of this hotel do fluctuate more than others but I had to include it as there are a few cheaper nights that really do make this exceptional value! The best price I found coming up was £138 a night.

My top tip is to opt for a Sunday night stay if you really want to get the price down.

Getting There: You can get to Budapest with a 2hr direct flight from any of London’s major airports as well as direct flights from Bristol Airport, Birmingham Airport, Liverpool Airport, Manchester Airport, Glasgow Airport and Belfast Airport.

If you’re coming from somewhere else in the UK you’ll need to catch a connecting flight to Budapest.

No.1 by Guesthouse from £103 a night

York, United Kingdom

Name: No.1 by Guesthouse

Location: York, UK

Tell me more: A Grade II Listed Regency townhouse that’s not just a hotel but a stately charmer with head-turning good looks. We’re talking sash windows, tall ceilings, a spa in the arches of the cellar and lush ivy that wraps around the door like a warm hug. Inside you’ll find pantries filled with treats waiting for you, a restaurant serving up delicious goodness all day and a bar pouring fabulous drinks.

Up the romance: Head down to the spa for the couple’s ‘Slice of Heaven’ package (£99). It includes a 60-minute neck, back and shoulder massage, followed by a scalp massage and topped off with a detoxifying rosehip and rose clay mask. They have a couples treatment room too!

Plus, we love that all the rooms come with a four posted bed.

Prices: Prices do go up for peak summer and weekend stays, but if you can travel off peak and midweek then this is an absolute treat of a stay. I spotted plenty of dates where prices come in just under £150  a night.

Getting There: The hotel is a 14-minute walk from York Station, which is well connected to lots of places in the UK including London, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Doncaster, Peterborough, Blackpool and Hull.

If you’re driving, No.1 by Guesthouse is found where Clifton and Bootham meet on the A19 – the main road into York from the North. Bear in mind that there is limited hotel parking, priced at £20 per car, per night, which you have to book before you arrive.
